| Tryout Season | The year prior to Team |
| Tryout Clinic | Tryouts are the same across all of Humble ISD, grades 6-12. They begin with 2-3 days of Clinic - this is where Candidates learn the Cheer and Dance they will be evaluated on during the actual tryout. This is new material for everyone and never material already known by current cheerleaders. At KMS this is a 3 day process with the 3rd day being a practice or “mock” tryout to help candidates get a feel for how the actual tryout will look. It is 4-5:30 each day. |
| 2 Day Tryout | Tryouts are 2 days and both days are required. This is not a “choose a day” scenario. The score from both days is averaged together and that is the Candidates final score. |
| Uniform Fitting | This is where each Cheerleader is fitted by a Varsity* Representative who is trained to fit them for the custom uniforms that we will wear on the field, court and performances. Every Cheerleader is required to attend with a Guardian who can verify and approve the fit. This includes returning Cheerleaders. The Rep comes for one evening so you must be present - this is not something that can be done at an alternate time. |
| Egg My Yard |
Our Biggest Fundraiser of the year. Community members (customers) can pay our Booster Club online to have several dozen filled plastic Easter eggs delivered by our dancers and cheerleaders to their yard on the Eve of Easter. Cheerleaders and Dancers will assist in the preparation of all the filled Easter Eggs the week of the event and the delivery and hiding of the actual eggs. |
| Summer Events | |
| Stunt Clinic | This is a Clinic with UCA instructors that come to focus just on establishing our Stunt Groups so that we are prepared for the season and for Summer Camp Competitions. This is mandatory and usually on a Saturday Morning at the end of the school year. |
| July 4th Parade | This is an optional event. Each year if we have 10 or more cheerleaders sign up, we march in the Kingwood 4th of July Parade. It is always on the actual 4th and we start at 8:30 and should finish by noon. |
| UCA Cheer Camp | This is a mandatory event and the first time our team will work together to learn a Pep Rally performance, compete against the other Humble ISD teams that attend, and establish stunt and choreo groups for the year. It is 4 days - 3 of them with UCA and other middle schools and one with just our team to do team photos, record videos used in our School’s advisory lessons, and learn cheers for Football season. |
| Clips | It is a Cheer tradition across all of Cheer to take wooden clothespins (laundry clips) and decorate them with your school colors using paint, rhinestones, beads, etc. You gift them to people from other teams that you see doing a great job or to someone that helped you or was kind to you. Cheerleaders clip these on their backpacks as a point of pride - you will notice that our UCA instructors have them from all over the USA. |
| Warm Fuzzies | These are tiny puff balls that can be pinned to your Cheer shoe laces and are awarded by coaches, instructors, choreographers and teammates to recognize someone that really helped them out or that they want to recognize for being a great teammate. |
| Team Pictures | Our team photographer is Tracey Ivy and she will take our Team and individual photos on the final day of Camp. This is your one opportunity to order additional yard signs, individual printed or digital photos of your cheerleader, team photos, spirit buttons or Big Heads, etc. All orders are done online so there is no “form” that will come home - it will be posted on SportsYou and the Team Website. There is a firm deadline so please be aware. |
| Cougar Camp | This is an event for incoming 6th graders to come to a mini pep rally and tour of the school during Staff Week (the week before students arrive). Cheerleaders perform Fight Song and a few cheers and then assist by leading tours with a Teacher. The event is usually about 2-3 hours. |
| 1st Semester | |
| Pep Rallies |
Pep Rallies happen 2-4 times a year and are always from 3pm-3:55pm in the Main Gym at KMS. Cheer will always do a performance that incorporates a dance and stunts as well as do several cheers throughout the Pep Rally and end with our Cougar Beat competition between grade levels. Pep Rallies are open to parents but you will need to check in through the front office and receive a visitor’s badge. Please plan accordingly as there will be a line of other parents coming to watch their children perform (athletics, Band, Dance, etc.) We will always do our main performance facing the 8th grade side. |
| Football Season |
This refers to the 8 football games for each grade level, usually beginning in late August/early September and extending through late October/early November. 7th Grade plays on Monday nights and 8th Grade on Tuesday nights. A game night is technically 2 games - A and B Team. Cheerleaders wear their uniforms to school on their game day and remain at school to eat dinner before boarding a bus to the field as required by UIL policy. We cheer both games and generally end around 9pm and cheerleaders are released to their parents to go home.
There are no playoffs in middle school so the 8 games are the entirety of the season. |
| Home Field & Games | Our Home Field is KPHS. No games are played at KMS - all Home Games refer to KPHS. |
| Away Game |
Away fields are also High School Fields that the middle school we are playing feeds into. The two exceptions are Charles Street Stadium in Humble and one game each year at the district High School Stadium, Turner. |
| Football Meals & Team Dinner | Cheerleaders remain at school to eat from 4pm-4:45 when we board our game bus. Meals are paid for to Booster club who then purchases and delivers the meals each game day. |
| Cheer Team Meet Up | This is a tradition where both Cheer Teams meet up, chat, and usually do a Cheer together on the Home Team side. We generally do this around half time or 3rd quarter of the 2nd game of the night. |
| Game Day Team Gifts | This is an Humble ISD tradition. At the First and Last games of the season, we exchange a gift basket with the team we are playing. The exchange generally occurs at half time of the 2nd game. |
| Littles Clinic | KMS Cheer hosts a Cheer Clinic for PreK-6th graders, usually during Football season, on a Saturday morning. Our Cheerleaders run all of the “Stations” and future cheerleaders learn jumps, motion technique, a cheer and a dance. They receive photos and a t-shirt as part of the Clinic price and are invited to perform at a Home game that week. This is our largest team fundraiser of the year. |
| UIL Showoffs | All Cheer teams, middle and high school, in Humble ISD perform a UIL Game Day style routine at AHS on a weeknight evening. This is usually in November but can vary. This is a chance to show off what you are learning and for High School teams to premiere their UIL Game Day Competition routines. |
| Basketball Season |
During this season we cheer for both girls and boys basketball teams. The season usually begins in November and lasts until end of January/early February. We only cheer at KMS Home games. Games vary in their nights and generally last until about 7:30-8pm. Cheerleaders remain at school after school to eat dinner and prepare and are released to their parents at the end of the games. |
| Basketball Meals | This is the same as Football meals. |
| Humble Parade of Lights |
The Humble Parade of Lights is a KMS Cheer tradition. We march every year wearing our uniform (or warmups if cold!) and Santa Hats. It is always the first Tuesday of December and we will go directly to downtown Humble via bus. Students will be released to their parents at the end of the parade route to go home. |
| Holiday Cheer! |
This is our traditional Holiday Celebration as a team. We always ask for a volunteer to host our girls and we do a potluck dinner and dessert evening with themed dress and a Secret Santa gift exchange and games. |
| Second Semester | Basketball season does continue from 1st to 2nd Semester |
| 5th Grade Mini Pep Rally | In January KMS hosts all incoming 6th graders from our feeder elementary schools. We perform at a mini pep rally in the morning and then go back to class while our guests go to different sessions. This pep rally is NOT open to parents. |
| After School Practices |
During 2nd Semester, without a class period to practice in, Cheer Practices 2 days a week from 4-5:30pm. These are mandatory practices. If a cheerleader is not present, they will not perform with the team as this is the only time that they will learn choreo and formations. |
| Elementary School Performances | Depending on the year, sometimes we have requests to perform at morning pep rallies for Elementary Schools. When this happens, we will usually take a bus or have parents drop students off at the elementary school and then ride back to KMS and rejoin classes in the morning. |
| Spring Show | Our Dance Team, Charms, hosts an annual Spring Show in late April. Dance Team, all Dance Classes and Cheer perform. The show is 2 nights and all performers perform BOTH nights. This is a fundraiser for Charms and a guest performance for Cheer. Our outgoing Team will perform together for the last time and our incoming team will perform together for the first time. |
| Banquet |
We end our season with our Cheer Banquet in May. This is always held the night before or after the Dance banquet so our Booster Club can assist with both - parents from Dance help staff the Cheer banquet and parents from Cheer help staff the Dance banquet so that each can enjoy the night of their banquet with their student. Cheer Banquet is a dress up occasion with a catered meal, awards, and a slide show of the entire year for the girls to enjoy. |
